What should I do when my fruit tree arrives?

When your bare root fruit trees arrive, open the package and plant as soon as possible. If planting cannot be done immediately, fruit trees can be stored in a cool area for up to 2 weeks.

  • Keep roots covered with moist soil, sawdust or sand, and water as needed.
  • If planting will be further delayed, trees should be “heeled in” by planting temporarily in loose soil.
  • Never let roots dry out.
  • The day before planting, place trees in water so that all roots are covered.
  • Allow trees to absorb water for up to 4 hours.
